Making Science
Communication Work

Communicating science clearly and effectively is difficult – REALLY difficult – for a host of reasons.

It's tough to find good writers and editors who not only understand science at a deep level but also explain it well. It's also tough to identify folks who can help scientists disseminate their science beyond the narrow confines of the scientific journal and without the jargon that so often befuddles readers and listeners. And it's tough to take a new publication and turn it into a leader in its field.

I help science-minded organizations and individuals overcome all of the above hurdles and in doing so meet their science communication needs.

With a background in neuroscience and a graduate degree in science journalism, I know a lot about all of these hurdles, having worked in the science communications arena for more than 20 years, as a journalist, writer, editor, publications manager and teacher.

I'm confident I can help you because I have a proven record of success. For instance, most recently, I helped build the Pain Research Forum into the gold-standard publication that covers the latest in pain neuroscience research for expert investigators. I am now doing something very similar as the Executive Editor of the Migraine Science Collaborative.

I also created a one-of-its kind science communications training program for researchers, many of whom say it was one of the most influential, practical learning experiences of their career.

I’ve also organized and hosted countless webinars on different topics in biomedical science, so I can also help you with any events you wish to provide for your audience.

So why choose to work with me?

I'm unique amongst science communicators in that I can cover any area of biomedical research, in a variety of roles – journalist, writer, editor, publications manager, and science communications trainer – and in a variety of formats, including news and feature articles, podcasts, literature reviews, original research articles, and much more.

After using my services, your audience – whether readers or listeners, senior investigators or students, experts or non-experts – will be enlightened and delighted. They'll know all about the science that matters to you and your organization, delivered in the format that best gets the message across.

Most of all, you'll rest easy knowing that your science has been conveyed with accuracy, clearness, sophistication and flair – all at the same time!

More than a science writer…

After working together to meet your science communication needs, we can take a break and talk about coffee – another passion of mine! In fact, I'm on a quest to visit EVERY independent coffee shop in NYC and rank the quality of their lattes (my favorite coffee drink).

Further indulging my interest in ranking things that I love, I’ve also started posting my rankings of the all-time best songs from U2, my favorite band. We can discuss over our coffee.

But first things first: let’s discuss your science communication needs and how I can help you reach your goals.
